I wish . . .

I wish I could say that Jilli's first week with her Omnipod has gone fabulously. I wish I could say that, but I can't. :-( Jilli is no longer using the pod for her insulin management & hasn't been since Sunday. Her blood sugar levels were all over the place & they were causing sweet, baby girl to be in agony. It was heartbreaking. There's so much more to insulin management than putting some insulin into a syringe or pod or a pump & whallah - it magically fixes things. Getting the right amount of insulin to make her insulin levels as close to normal as possible feels at times like a crap shoot. And it doesn't always work. It tears at every ounce of your being when you witness insulin levels that aren't working. Jilli has been on 3 different types of insulin for a long time & trying to calculate how those 3 types of insulin can now become only 1 type of insulin for the pod system just wasn't working right & she wasn't getting the right levels for her precious, little body. Like I said earlier, it was heartbreaking.

So, for now she is back to injections. She has her next endo visit on Tuesday & the kids want to talk to her endo & hear what she has to say & they may revisit the pod as early as then or it may not be revisited for a while. It's not easy for my kids & I don't envy them one bit. Anyone who knows me, knows I give my opinion, but then I try to shut up & let them make their own decision, letting them know I'll support them 150% with whatever decision is made. Please keep my kids & Jilli in your thoughts & prayers. They really need them right now. Thanks.

It's a BIG day . . .

For our Jilli today!! Today is the first day she will receive her insulin through her OmniPod!!! She's been using the Pod since Friday but has only been receiving saline! Today is the first day since her diagnosis almost 2 years ago that she won't have to receive any injections to receive her insulin!!!!!! Do you know how HUGE that is????? It's pretty darn HUGE!!!!

Please keep Jilli in your prayers that this transition goes smoothly!!!! Thanks everyone!!!! Peace, love & HOPE for a CURE!!!!!

Peace, Love, & HOPE for a CURE!!!!!

Hello! This year, I'll be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes with Team Jilli-Bean!!! I walk in honor of my precious, precious granddaughter, Jillian. Jilli was diagnosed at the tender age of 17 months. Now, at 3, she is given a minimum of 2 injections each & every day. She has a minimum of 4 sugar checks each & every day & we have to count carbs & sugars of each morsel of food she eats. We are so, so eager to FUND THE CURE for our Jilli, as well as the millions of other Type 1 patients.

One-half million other walkers across the country will be walking on many different dates, trying to reach our goal of raising $100 million!!! Maybe there's a walk near you that you could participate in??? Please check into it, okay???

Type 1, or juvenile, diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of people, a large and growing percentage of them children.

There is some good news, though. For the first time, scientists are predicting that we CAN expect to see a cure well within our lifetime!

Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality! Please donate generously because insulin is NOT a cure!!!! Thank you!!!!
